The Rules of the Table

Respect, always.

These policies protect every visitor, member, and community partner. Read what we promise you, and what we ask of you in return.

Community Guidelines

This is a community grounded in love, respect, and equality. The premise of Juneteenth — the day enslaved people learned they were free — demands that everyone here be treated as an equal human being.

Always welcome:

  • Sharing Black history, stories, music, art, and family traditions.
  • Promoting Juneteenth events, cookouts, and Black-owned businesses.
  • Honest, respectful discussion of race, history, and civil rights.
  • Asking questions in good faith — no question about Juneteenth or Black history is unwelcome.

Never tolerated:

  • Hate speech, slurs, or racial harassment of anyone — Black, white, brown, or other.
  • Threats, doxxing, or attempts to harm or intimidate another member.
  • Sexual content, spam, or content that exploits children.
  • Denial of slavery, genocide, or other documented historical atrocities.
  • Impersonation of public figures, historians, or organizations.

An AI moderator automatically hides content that appears to violate these rules and flags it for human review. Moderators and admins may hide, mute, or ban accounts. We err on the side of the community's safety. You can appeal any moderation action by emailing the contact on our footer.

Privacy Policy

What we collect: account email, display name, posts you publish, events you create, and (with your permission) approximate location for the proximity sort on the events board. Geolocation is requested in your browser and never stored on our servers.

What we never do: sell your data to advertisers, share your email with sponsors, or hand over personally identifying information without legal compulsion. Symbolic NFT mints are recorded off-chain in our database — no wallet or chain identifier is linked.

Cookies: a strictly necessary session cookie for authentication, plus a one-time local storage flag to remember you've completed the welcome tour.

Your rights: at any time you can sign in, delete your posts, delete your account (removing your profile and messages), or email us to request a full data export.

Terms of Service

By creating an account you confirm you are at least 13 years old, that you'll follow the Community Guidelines above, and that you own the rights to anything you post.

Content ownership: you keep ownership of your posts. You grant us a non-exclusive license to display your content on the Juneteenth Freedom Project for the duration of your membership.

Symbolic NFTs: the Freedom Cards on this site are educational, off-chain collectibles representing moments in Black history. They have no monetary value, are not securities, and are not transferable between wallets.

Sponsors & donations: sponsorships and donations support the operating cost of this site and Juneteenth community programming. We are not a registered 501(c)(3) at launch — donations are not tax-deductible unless that status is later announced.

Limitation: the service is provided "as is" without warranty. We're not liable for posts by other members or events posted by users — verify before attending.

Accessibility & Inclusion

The history of Juneteenth is the history of inclusion — of being recognized, finally, as a full human being. We build with that in mind.

  • The history page offers AI-narrated audio for visitors who prefer to listen.
  • Mobile-first design, large tap targets, semantic headings, alt text on every image.
  • Closed-caption playlist links open on YouTube where transcripts are available.
  • If you can't access a feature, please email us — we'll fix it.

This community is for every human living and breathing today. Black, white, brown, immigrant, native — if you believe in love, respect, and equality, you belong here.
